The Latin American Research Centre welcomes Dr. Josephine Smart and Dr. Alan Smart, professors in the Department of Archeology and Anthropology at the University of Calgary. This talk focuses on the post-1990 Chinese dominance in the grocery retail sector in Panama and Belize. Drawing on empirical data collected in 2013 and 2015 respectively, this discussion critically examines the emerging and expanding economic and social linkages between China and Central America.
