It is well-known that generating receiver functions using the headwave on the vertical and radial components yields shearwave lags comparable to those obtained by conventional PSwave statics analysis. Combining these data with receiver functions of the transverse receiver component permits the evaluation of shallow anisotropy.

Kristof De Meersman has a BSc in Geology from the University of Ghent in Belguim, and an MSc and PhD in exploration Geophysics from the University of Leeds, UK. Kristof has been with CGG for 8 years now and is currently a Senior Geophysical Researcher in the MC group. He has worked on a variety of topics ranging from micro-seismic, permanent reservoir monitoring, multi-component and near-surface problems such as coherent noise attenuation and velocity estimation.
