If you work with data or would like to learn how to work with data, please join us for Calgary’s first PyData meetup! The meetup will take place in room 440B on the 4th floor of the Taylor Family Digital Library on the main campus. Come meet other Data Wranglers and learn more about Jupyter Notebooks, pandas, Numpy, matplotlib, and related data science libraries. If you are currently using open source data tools, we would love to hear about how you use these tools, what data you analyze and what problems you solve. So we can estimate the number of people who will attend, please register and RSVP on the meetup page: http://www.meetup.com/PyData-Calgary/events/229495202/ Agenda 6:00 pm – Doors Open/Networking/Introductions 6:15 pm – PyData Calgary Group Introduction 6:30 pm – Presentation(s) • Brief introduction to the PyData stack – a quick tour of the modules and tools available, how they fit together and why use PyData. • User stories and examples – Short presentations from new and experienced users describing how they use PyData or what they would like to do. (Please contact the organizer if you would like to speak.) • Statistics in Python using Statsmodels – like Stata, SPSS, SAS, etc. you can estimate statistical models (OLS, logistic regression, etc.) in Python. We will walk through specifying models using an R-like notation, estimating them and interpreting the results. Presenting We are looking for presenters for this meeting and future meetings. If you would like to make a presentation on a particular module, a data analysis you have done or another related topic, please contact the organizer. Projects and Problems If you’re working on a sticky data analysis or having a problem using a particular tool or library, bring it along to the meeting. There will be time towards the end of the meetup to ask questions and work on projects.
