Graduate students of the Department of French Italian and Spanish are organizing RevilATIONS, a conference that features multidisciplinary perspectives on the spectrum of malevolence. Presentations will explore themes such as good vs. evil, language of evil/evil in language; representations of evil in religion, or space, or time, or art, violence (both symbolic and physical); power, greed and money; prejudice and its shadows, gender: the good, the bad and the ugly, and Satan as hero. The conference will take place October 30- November 1st, 2014. Dr. Ronald Shusterman (Université Jean Monnet-Saint-Etienne) and Dr. Dominique Perron (University of Calgary) will participate as invited speakers. Dr. Shusterman will present “Evil, Cosmology, and the Fact/Value Distinction” on Friday October 31, and Dr. Perron will hold the talk “The University as Evil” on Saturday November 1.
