Participants wanted for “Man Enough?” Program Calgary Communities Against Sexual Abuse is committed to the prevention of sexual violence by bringing awareness to root causes and foundational beliefs that perpetuate violence, many of which are connected to traditional ideals of masculinity. Engaging boys and men has been recognized as an important component of creating communities free from sexual violence. CCASA is excited to announce that the “ManEnough?” program will once again be running this fall at the University of Calgary with the support of the Women’s Resource Centre. The “ManEnough?” Program provides a safe space for male identified people to speak on issues related to the societal view of masculinity and its relation to a culture accepting of sexual violence. This program is designed to assist men in the development of the skills needed to challenge attitudes and beliefs that support violence and to explore alternative constructions of masculinity that promote equality, as men who are invested in healthy relationships with their own masculinity will go on to have healthy relationships with others. CCASA has had great success, first in engaging members of the community and then students of the University of Calgary campus, in sustaining a committed group of men dedicated to exploring their own masculinity and the power they hold as men to influence a culture that allows other men to be violent. If you or someone that you know is interested in learning more about how to become part of the “ManEnough?” The Women’s Resource Centre and CCASA are offering two information sessions: September 24 at 12:00 (noon) September 25 at 5:00 pm. Both will be held at the Women’s Resource Centre in MacEwan Hall.
