Opportunity Description:

The Organization: Shelter Movers is a national, volunteer-powered charitable organization providing moving and storage services at no cost to individuals and families fleeing abuse. We collaborate with local businesses and community agencies to support people, primarily women and children, as they transition to a life free of violence. The Role: The Marketing and Communication Supervisor will work closely with the National Marketing and Communications team as a representative and ambassador for the Edmonton Chapter. They will support the local team with all functions of marketing and communications needs. They will report to the Chapter Director. Responsibilities and Accountabilities: Executes Marketing and Communications strategy with the Chapter Director and National Marketing Team, including Social Media, Media Relations and Graphic Design. Help manage and review social media posts (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, etc.) made by Marketing Coordinators. Manage and develop content for the Shelter Movers Chapter. Secure interviews on local media to promote the new Shelter Movers Chapter Reach out to various sources to promote Shelter Movers as well as engage and maintain relations. Time commitment: Time Commitment Approximately 7-9 hours per week This is an unpaid volunteer position Skills and Qualifications: Experience in Communications and Media Relations Professional PR and communications experience, preferably with a charity or non-profit Demonstrated experience on social media platforms such as Twitter and Facebook Extremely strong written and verbal communication skills Experience in brand and events promotion Be self-driven and innovative – be prepared and excited to bring new ideas and procedures! Experience working with volunteers and volunteer management approaches Strong interest in the Gender Based Violence (GBV) sector Ability to maintain a voice that is supportive, approachable, anti-racist, anti-oppressive, and inclusive in all areas of communication The ability to prioritize tasks and shift priorities as necessary Other requirements: Shelter Movers volunteers must be at least 18 years of age, complete an interview process, sign a confidentiality agreement, complete and pass a police reference check, and attend a Trauma-Informed Care Orientation session. As a Volunteer at Shelter Movers: You’ll have the opportunity to make a positive impact helping women and families transition away from violence and abuse. You’ll gain experience in volunteer management and the nonprofit sector, with coaching and support from an experienced professional in the field. You’ll receive training in preparation for your role, and have access to ongoing training opportunities. You’ll work with a great team of passionate volunteers and supporters. After 3 months of satisfactory service, a confirmation of volunteering can be provided. After 6 months, we’d be happy to provide a personalized reference letter.
