Opportunity Description:

This role involves a high degree of interaction with adult participants with varying disabilities at a variety of locations around Calgary. Meet ups are planned in all quadrants of the city accessible by transit and schedule is made a month in advance. Events include but are not limited to dinners, movies, shopping, laser quest, info sessions, games nights, pottery painting. Primary Responsibilities: Join the adult group as they meet every Tuesday Be present as a helping hand for group members who require assistance with tasks such as ordering food, carrying shopping bags, a push around laser quest, etc. Arrive early to meet members and aid those with limited physical mobility Actively engage with the participants as a friend Be aware of any conflicts or emergencies and contact the necessary Provide support and instill confidence in the participants, always asking before giving assistance Communicate with Program Coordinator regarding schedule and any advanced notice of absence. Last minute cancellations must be communicated to CPAA staff by calling cell phone number as provided Offer support, suggestions and interact with new volunteers Must follow all safety rules and safe work practices. Provide current police check every year Note: group members are adults and are providing and scheduling their own rides. You are not responsible to wait with them for their transportation or give them a ride home. Expectations, Qualifications and Skills: Able to engage positively with participants Must be dependable and punctual Be self-directed, willing to take initiative Ability to work with a diverse population Must have good communication skills Must have good decision-making skills Commitment: Tuesdays: 6-9pm Physical Demands: The employee is required to use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; frequent talking and hearing, and use of close, distance, color, and peripheral vision and depth perception; frequent standing, sitting, walking, and the ability to reach with hands and arms; occasional overhead reaching and kneeling, twisting, bending, stooping; occasional ability to lift and/or move up to twenty pounds.
