Soap for Hope, a program of Disaster Aid Canada, provide hygiene amenities and linens to community facilities that support marginalized people within our community. This includes shelters, transitional homes, food banks, schools and seniors facilities. We work with hotels to collect their used hygiene amenities, and our amazing volunteers reprocess these amenities to provide products you never would have known were destined for the landfill. Many shelters have little to no budget for hygiene products. This means that if they need to buy soap, then this money has to be diverted from food or other essential programs. Soap for Hope started in Airdrie 3 years ago and now has a 4000 sq. ft. donated facility at Deerfoot and McKnight. In the last three years, we have grown to service over 40 different shelters/ transitional houses or community centers , churches and schools in the Airdrie and Calgary area. By diverting hygiene products such as shampoos, bar soaps and lotions that would normally be thrown into the trash, we have been able to help homeless individuals regain their dignity and health while protecting the environment.
